Ah, the venerable Honda Civic, now bloated and supersized to the point that the current model is still saddled with a 4 cylinder even though it is longer and heavier than the 1995 Accord, which Honda took pity on it and gave it a V6. A V6 Civic SI wagon might be close to a worthy competitor, though I would likely prefer a Fit Si AWD.
It's a more powerful 4 banger than the Accord's 1995 V6, so I don't see that as a problem. As for bloated and supersized, yes, it is much larger, as are most cars these days. It's hard to fight physics when it comes to adding safety features.
A lot has changed in 20 years.
