Why can't some here accept kd's point of view without trashing him/her?
My only question to kd is when you get to retirement age, are you OK taking Social Security? If so, then you are already "leaning" on other taxpayers. This isn't any different.
It's not about a moral high ground, though. For example, I fully support Medicaid for those who require it; I don't want to see anybody have to do without health care, and I don't feel morally superior to somebody who can't afford it.
It's simply a part of my personality that I'm not comfortable leaning on anybody for anything, just as I'm not comfortable with other people (e.g. politicians) substituting their judgment for my own.
