Same here. We don't even have a long distance carrier anymore. They were charging us quite a bit, even when we didn't make any long distance calls. We need to keep a landline because of our security system. We could go to cellular, but it wouldn't really save much, and occasionally we get calls on our landline. So I called AT&T and told them to cancel our long distance service. They made it sound like we were making a big mistake. Supposedly, if I make a long distance call without having a long distance service, they'll charge us a lot. It's been over 3 years, and we haven't done it since. Google Voice works great... it just takes an extra 20 seconds or so to go through the menu to where you type in the number you want. And the quality is excellent. I can't tell the difference between it and a regular call.
