Options for using an ATT iPhone on a prepaid plan?
#9
Not what you're looking for, but here is a real world example. My son had a cheapy Android GoPhone that refused to hold a charge. I cut down the sim a couple of weeks ago and put it into an old iPhone 4 (had ATT unlock it as it was out of contract and sitting in a drawer).

Here's the catch (and the best part of it for me): We get around the data subscription because the point is for him to be able to call and text. He's welcome to use WiFi at our house and friends' houses, but data seems like an unnecessary expense at this point. We use the 10 cents/minute plan and buy the 1000 texts for $9.99. So far so good over the last few weeks. He has an iPhone (without data) for just over $10/month. In fact, I don't know that he's ever exceeded 200 texts (and iMessage only helps when at home), so cutting the $9.99 to $4.99 is even doable. Is there a better deal out there for an iPhone? This is why the resale value of your out of contract phone is so good. SHHHHHH!!!! Don't let AT&T catch on.

From what I've been told, there are effective workarounds for adding data, but that adds $$$ that I'm not looking to add.
