Wow, this is interesting. Everything's so small! Hate to say it but even though the font(s) remind me a lot of Arial the kerning or whatever makes it easy to read, even small. And that strikes me as odd, you'd think they'd default to make it better on new screens/higher resolutions and not my 1440x900 laptop.
System Preferences has an Extensions pane ... complete with puzzle piece icon. Wikipedia may need to update this page.
Even with the flatness there seems to be more contrast where you don't expect it and brighter colors for icons; this could be a net positive for usability despite the blandness.
Everything seems much faster. This is not an OS to make old hardware feel old.
