From a quick survey via Google...
6 cells> 5200-5800mAh
9 cells > 5200-5800mAh
So, they're using more cells, but cheaper and smaller cells in the 9-cell version rather than using more cells to provide more power which would be the way that most people would expect them to go.
Given that half the cells are probably fated to die early in both models, 9 cells might give you better odds for the battery lasting awhile. But cheaper and smaller cells with more connections makes for more heat and less life in the cells so the 9-cell version might have a shorter life than the 6 cell version.
