With no battery, the loss of AC power means that anything unsaved will be lost. Move the 'Book too much or somebody trips on the power cord, buh-bye.
At least some models of MacBook (and Pro and possibly Air) downclock the CPU when the battery is not present. I'd run some tests first to make sure the OP's MBP is running at close to full speed sans battery.
