That's where the false advertizing comes in. It was listed as "open box - fair condition". Nowhere in the description was refurbished or pre-owned. I would not have gone to the store with that $799 price tag if it was described as "pre-owned" or "refurbished." The savings off of a new one of the same model was too small. The i7 that I was interested in at Microcenter was listed as refurbished (2011 model) and was more than 1/2 off of its original price new.
This was clearly "pre-owned." I doubt it was store demo with the sticker residue on it. It did not have any "Geek Squad" refurb check-points in its description. Since they still sell that model new, they either made a mistake in listing, or something more malicious.
Anyway, this is just beating a dead horse (wasn't there an emoticon for that?).
There will be an epilogue tomorrow.
