The Drobo's can accept 4TB drives. After overhead for the raid that gives you 14.5TB of storage. The Drobo calculator shows 6TB drives being compatible but I'm not sure that is true. If it was true you could have 21.8TB of storage. http://www.drobo.com/storage-products/ca...alculator/ . Either way it supports volume sizes up to 16TB and then it auto creates a 2nd volume.
The Drobo with a working USB port can be attached to a base station. The 2nd Drobo only works via firewire800 though so it could not be attached to a base station.
