Remember that patent troll the dropped their case agains Newegg?

Yes and then some. The trolls file blanket lawsuits against companies that they feel are likely to roll over and pay to make the lawsuit go away. Filing the lawsuit doesn't cost much. Defending against it does cost money. Most likely, the troll wouldn't have the resources to pursue each case if each defendant chose to fight the claims. Newegg is forcing them to spend the money, to enforce their claim so that they 1) suffer the same financial burden that they've inflicted on others and 2) they can't come back and sue them again at a later date.
