PPS- as an illustration of the Somali community in MN (which is not all in the big city) there was this recent story:
(ie working hard at...well...hard jobs - cleaning turkey carcasses and the like)
The sad part - two young kids drowned:
Hundreds of folks, both recent Somali immigrants, and old-school whitebread Minnesotans, turned out for the funeral:

No, things are not perfect in Lake Wobegon...but all in all, we think the story of Somali immigration here has been a positive one.
Willmar, a city of about 19,600, has seen great growth in the number of residents originally from Somalia. Abi and other community leaders guess that the number is at least 2,000. Both boys’ families moved to the city about a year and a half ago, he said, drawn here because of relatives and jobs at the Jennie-O meatpacking plants.
