If you have a need for that machine with those specs, I'd buy it. That's a better price than most comparable machines go for on ebay. Re heat: The word generally is that the 3.46 is no hotter than the 3.33; no real problems. If you want to, you can ramp up the fan speed to cool it down.
But the BIG qualifying question is: Do you need a machine that fast? Slower ones with four cores go for about $350-$400 on ebay.
I've been tracking this stuff pretty closely for about a year now, so I'm pretty confident about my answers.
It's going to accommodate an Apogee Symphony PCI express card that will run an 8 channel Rosetta converter- recording
Also, the power will be primary for mixing
It'll also be my desktop based printing computer so photoshop and large files
Headed for a 24 inch printer...plus scanning from an Imacon 4x5 transparency scanner
The main thing is the recording and mixing as far as power goes
