good question. I don't really know the difference. I saw ads for what looks to be 1'x1' or maybe 2'x2' plastic thingies that lock with each other and they said you place those on top of the existing patio/deck/etc.

edit: one funny thing about that video, when they are done cleaning the area up in preparation for the tiles it looks pretty nice. I would have stopped there. LOL
