I was never A Rosanne fan, but I saw her rendition maybe 10 years after the fact and I laughed so hard. Even though I knew what to expect, it was so expectantly bad, all I could do is crack up.
In an article about the Fergie thing, there was a list of all of the notable horrible renditions in the past, but at the end showed one by Marvin Gaye. It was very similar to Fergie's - thin, chezzy drum machine backing a sultry version of the song - and it sounded great AND was well received. But technically, it was very similar.

I've never seen that clip, that's classic Marvin and it was wonderful. Put that side by side with Fergie's version - not at all the same. Sure they could both be called jazz versions. But his version doesn't make your ears bleed or make you feel so embarrassed for the singer that you want to turn it off. You get passion for the subject, and a strong sense of cool from his version, but not the sound of foreplay.
