This writer "anonymous" has cleverly used signature words, phrases and ideas from a variety of people, to keep us guessing and to shield their own identity. The person who wrote this is very smart, though their motive is unclear. I would also expect this author to lie if asked if they wrote it, so quizzing the "likely suspects" doesn't seem that helpful.
I mean if you're going to confess there is no point to being "anonymous."
It's also highly likely that the NY Times edited the piece to disguise the author.
