I've heard the opposite. Assuming the pizza stone has come up to the temperature of the oven, it should help regulate the oven temperature and even out fluctuations such as when you open and close the door as it will retain its heat while the hot oven air escapes. But I could see how it could be considered a cold spot before it comes up to temperature since it might take longer to preheat with the stone vs an empty oven?
