I've had positive results with just picking up the phone and calling my local Post Office. No holding. No menus. No 800 number. (tu)
I just got off the phone with my local post office.
Indeed there was no on-hold, no menus, just a real person who was able to investigate the tracking number I dictated.
The postal employee stated that a pallet/skid of packages was unloaded from the Amazon truck. The scan on the skid indicated that the package was present (I presume a manifest was scanned), but the package in question wasn't in the load. Thus Amazon made a mistake by not actually delivering it to the local postoffice. It compounded the mistake by stating to me in its customer-facing order interface that the package was "Delivered" to me.
