Edit: the Guardian is reporting that the cat is likely to be a rescue, because of Major's (re-)training at a rescue center with cats (to make sure he gets along with them). Also, the new cat is female, according to the First Lady... apparently the twitterverse is all abuzz with speculation about the kitty.
Interesting that this will be the first feline in the WH since George W.'s cat India. I didn't realize that India had lived to be 18, and was very obviously adored by the Bush family:
(that last one is from Jenna's wedding day...)
... I will say this about the Bush family, they have excellent taste in pets.
