What is the first building (the smaller of the two)? An abandoned fire lookout?
Small building with the crescent moon is the outhouse for the larger building which is an abandoned fire lookout as you noted. The cement pad for the outhouse has eroded over the years. Hard to tell from the shot but stepping out the outhouse and stumbling a few feet to your left would drop you down a 600' cliff face. There are plans to renovate the lookout and allow camping in it.

Thankfully it still feels pristine for a lot of these spots. I definitely seek that out!

At least you've got the memories! Emigrant Wilderness is beautiful as well. This is actually near Emigrant Gap north of I80 near Tahoe. Similar name, similar beauty...slightly different locale.
