Do you have a USB 3.0 card in the MP, or a SATA III/6Gbps card to take full advantage of a RAID setup?
They have not been on sale recently but 3.5 inch WD drives have been on sale for $76 in the 4 TB size. Both for internal drives and external USB.
Drive prices do not often drop below $40 unless you are really good at catching closeout deals. Prices can get compressed:
- 1 TB for $35
- 2 TB for $45
- 4 TB for $75
- 8 TB for $120 (best price in $/TB)
- 10 TB for $165.
With a little detective work, you might be able to find 2.5 inch drives in an external USB RAID with a capacity of 4 TB. I have not noticed these recently because I have not been looking for drives around that storage size.
