As a white male, I fail to see anything overtly racist in the depiction of Aunt Jemima, even though it may have originally been based on a racist minstrel stereotype. She was just a nice, smiling lady on some syrup that I recall from my childhood. Is it a win that the rebrand is as boring as it is inoffensive or is it more offensive that a piece of black history was erased?
It's got dicey roots. They were aware of it and tried to address it over the years. Jemima got more stylish. But, the question really is what was the most appropriate way to handle it in 2020? Things got heated and they made an executive decision. Outside of my control or thoughts.
Unnoticed at the same time is Jake from State Farm suddenly changed his race last summer. Corporations. Whatareyagonnado?
