The Ventures: Stars On Guitars
#4
The Ventures are still HUGE in Japan.

That's because surf music is huge in Japan. Right now I'm listening to a show by Surf Coasters from 2004, downloaded from archive.org It's a good recording but Shigeo Naka's insane guitar is unfortunately recessed in the mix. (It's an audience recording.)

If you're OK with the idea of surf music being expanded into some long jams you'll really dig this. It's really much "more" than just Dick Dale covers.

There's now a lot of commercial things on Archive.org (why, I have no idea, since you only get 30-second clips) but if you sort through you can find interesting things, even from commercial artists who OK'd some concerts etc to be uploaded there.

Archive.org has one of my very favorite Warren Zevon recordings, a radio interview. When I found it I downloaded and edited out the DJ's interview patter ... it was pretty horrible and the DJ was asking Zevon a lot of inane questions. https://archive.org/details/wz1976-10-13...iew.flac16

but if you don't like The Ventures Christmas Album, we can't be friends.
