We opted for the Brother MFC-L5850DW, that does all the "alls" for the AIO part of it, but it's B&W only in the printing department.
OTOH, I made sure to do a lot of homework before pulling the trigger to make sure of what it did, so that when it showed up on the doorstep, it was safe.
We replaced a similar Bro AIO from 2007, that while it still had potential, it was beyond my fixing abilities which have seriously waned the last few decades.
Sorry for your hassle; if that happened when the fixing abilities were intact, I'm pretty sure the solution would have included single malt scotch.
Maybe something similar will still help you now....
