(...unless they're backed into a corner, you threaten their cubs, or you surprise them (and they feel cornered).

That beared repeating.


As those who have demonstrated a keen grasp of the obvious have stated, there are no guarantees when considering appropriate actions when confronted by a bear, and I have to wonder if anybody actually thought there are.

So don't confront a bear, but when confronted, one has to decided if this a you escape the bear or the bear eats you situation.

Most bears can outrun most people.

So you stand and (try to) scare the bear, or hope there's someone close that you can outrun.
