gadje,
I created the thumb drive for Jerry and gave him the Crucial M500 960GB 2.5" SSD.
The flash drive is a Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive. 64GB. It's formatted as APSF with two partitions. Both partitions are 32GB. One partition has a full complete installation of Mac OS 10.14 Mojave. Not crippled in any way. Full installation with a user and all the bells and whistles.
If you boot off the flash drive, you choose a user, enter a PW and reach the desktop. You can open the Utilities folder and run Disk Utility. The second partition has a copy of the OS 10.14 Mojave installer. A full installer.
The Crucial M500 960GB drive I gave to Jerry is a 2.5" ssd. It is formatted as an APSF-GUID Partition. It was installed in a 2.5" USB 3 enclosure. It was 100% ready for Jerry to use.
The installer on the partition is the one I anticipated Jerry using to install the OS on the Crucial M500 he installed in the mini. The goal was to do that and then migrate everything from the Time Machine backup to it.

I had to use the stick Peter sent me with El Capitan installer because I misplaced the stick you sent me Robert. I’ve been trying to find it all day. It was on my computer desk but it’s vanished. UGH!!!!
