Yeah, there's always been exaggeration and an occasional unjustifiable yarn that wasn't that important (e.g., H. Clinton claim of a sniper in Bosnia) and the rare total fabrication of something that was essentially not true that was pretty-to-very consequential.
It seems like for Republicans, them watching Trump go completely off the map for deceit and getting away with has "set them free" of the constraints of having to at least approximate the truth.
