OT: Selling a house... Are all fee's the same?

While it is obviously not in anybody's interest to be carrying a house that isn't being used, a tax due date in and of itself is not really a good reason to close quickly, and perhaps negotiate a lower price to avoid paying them.

The taxes are prorated (at least in New York state) so that if you or the estate pays them for a year in advance, the buyer reimburses you for whatever portion of that year they end up owning the house.

You (or the estate) end up paying the same per day tax rate regardless of the date the annual payment is made.
