bangman, I think it depends on your exact config. I would suggest:
1) Make sure to have a nice fast 7200rpm hard drive, with a good cache
2) Max out the RAM if you can; RAM is now so cheap that it's hard not to justify doing this
3) Overclock +50mhz with a replacement cooling fan/heatsink combo on the stock processor-- of course a processor upgrade is nice, but the lower speed ZIF's can now be found pretty cheaply on ebay.
