A 6400 running OS 8 could be fairly snappy. My 7600 was. A B&W G3 running Tiger will NOT be snappy.
A computer and OS combination is not "just fine" if everything occurs at a snail's pace so that the machine can't do what I need it to do. I found using Mail and Safari painful on the B&W G3 with Panther. I can't imagine what it would be like to try to get work done.
I'm far from cutting edge, here: my newest machine will be four years old in September. Over the years, I've kept various old systems going for far too long due to various constraints. I would not describe any of these very outdated systems as "just fine", much as I loved them abd babied them along with various upgrades.
