That's why I suspect Apple has something else coming out.
I've said many times that I'd like to see Apple bring out a smaller tower, akin to the MDD.
Same processor, but maybe only two internal HDs, and one or two PCI slots.
But I don't believe/agree that Apple has removed " slotted tower from the grasp of so many" at all.
One can get a Mac Pro with AirPort and BT (optional, sadly) for $2200. I don't see that as being out of the grasp of so many, significantly more so than the G5.
The RAM *is* more expensive. And it may not get down to <$100/G, but it will get cheaper. Like all RAM before it, it starts out very expensive, and generally gets cheaper.
Nobody who actually needs 8-16G of memory will be denied, if they're patient. It's vaguely similar to buying a Civic and installing $10-$1200 worth of rims and tires, and then more for aero-effects, Erector Set wings. The memory may not have the bling, but for those who can use it, it will be worth the expense.
