I grew up in that tri-state area (PA, NJ, DE).
I would go with my mother on Tuesdays to the Pennsylvania Dutch market where we would buy fresh meats and other goods from the Amish. My friends and I would act like asses and snicker about their `peculiar` ways, but my mother somehow got it through my thick head that they were to be admired and respected.
My personal animosity toward the overly pious faithful has been growing of late -- and with good reason -- however, when I see what humans of faith are really capable of being, it almost pulls me back toward the flock.
Almost.
