Will DDR2 (MacBook RAM) work where plain DDR 5300 is called for?

Just wondering.... have a peecee that uses it -- but wanted to suggest to someone with same specs AND density that they try the latest RAM that is DDR2 instead - hoping it would just slow down to the matching RAM.
Anyone ever try??? The cost factor makes it either RAM for them or NO ram for them. DDR2 is cheap |
