As onthedownlow alluded to, GSM is a far superior solution when it comes to phone swapping. The key is to remember to save all your contacts to the SIM card, which admittedly limits some of the cool extra tagging features that even the cheapest T-Mobile cell phones will provide. Then when it comes time to update your phone, you pop the SIM card out of old phone and pop the old SIM card into new phone. Done.
