As for PCs not having Firewire, many now do, only in the 4 pin iLink flavor. It's actually PCs loss.
I do agree that Apple has dropped the ball big time re: Firewire. One reason I'm holding on to my 4th generation Ipod Photo is that I can use Firewire to charge AND sync. I wonder how many others are doing the same.
