Water damage is rarely serious in electronic gear. In various instrument companies I've worked for, the first step in cleaning up gear before repair was to take it to the car wash and hose it down with clean water (no soap) and then take it home and bake it in the oven at 200 degress F overnight. That was SOP at Tektronix. It's just good practice, but all the water has to be baked out of it. Might use 130-150 degrees on stuff with a lot of plastic in it. My favorite save was a Nakamichi 700 cassette deck -- the owner couldn't believe that it was working after what the fire dept. had done to it.
