After I zapped the PRAM and disconnected everything the mouse problem may have disappeared. I say "may have" because the problems were always intermittent and seemed to escalate as time went by.
I reinstalled the Logitech mouse software, which is supposed to be Intel ready, and am using the MX 1000 right now. So far, it seems OK. I'll have to wait and see if the problem remains fixed.
Believe me when I say that I'll be glad if the problem was just something that I inadvertently brought over from my G5.
I keep thinking when I call Applecare to complain about the same problems that I had on the G5, that they'll take away my MacPro and tell me to stand in the corner
