But seriously, the only way to troubleshoot a problem like this is to eliminate any 3rd party hardware and to start from a clean system install. Anything that did not come in the box from apple is suspect. That includes any software or data transferred from your G5.
You have to use known good hardware to troubleshoot, and the only way to do that is to start with known good software. That means nuke & pave in many instances.
