The iMac is essentially a monitor/CPU all in one. If the guts don't go below the monitor they have to go above (top heavy) or in the back (increases thickness). So unless components get ultra-micro I'm not sure what else Apple can do as far as form factor. Ideally, they'd give consumer a choice by making a decent Mac mini, but I think they are afraid after the Cube fiasco. I think that was a different Apple era though. The cube was too much ahead of its time. Consumer now accept (even enjoy) paying a premium for Apple products.
