Those systems are good WHEN they work, IF they work, and ONLY FOR AS LONG as they work, whereas a properly sized and placed rear window works like a charm every time provided it is kept reasonably clean.
And as I've mentioned, the only time I've had problems with mine is when snow is piled up on the bumper. You'll have the same problem if snow is piled up on a rear window. They also work regardless of lighting conditions, unlike windows. From my experience, such systems work in a wider range of conditions than windows.
Most cars have pretty long warranties anymore, so if it stopped working I'd just have it fixed for free. Of course I still look (when I can) just in case it does quit on me, but it's been very helpful many times.
