I think that you are not using it properly.
Try this in Firefox...
Make a new folder in the Bookmarks Toolbar Folder and call it "RSS"...
Find an web site with an RSS feed that you'd like to subscribe to...
Click on the orange RSS icon in the Address bar...
When the RSS-feed page loads, subscribe to the feed using Live Bookmarks and save the bookmark to your new RSS folder.
At that point, accessing the feed should be quick and easy from your Firefox toolbar. Much quicker and easier than using an external RSS reader.
