This technology had to start somewhere. 20 years later here's what they were producing.

Around that same time in the mid 70s, in college I was playing around with a digital video camera (B/W only). The camera was quite a bit smaller than that and was much faster (no cassettes), but also required a large mini-computer. I wrote software to record video to reels of 9-track tape and play it back to a digital CRT display that we also had. I still have a low quality print of me taken with that camera.
