I had been happy with a 512MB standard speed Sandisk card in my Canon S3 IS. Recently at certain events I found it necessary to shoot so much that I'd have to stop and offload the files two or even three times.
So I looked at 2GB cards and finally decided to go the extra bucks and try Sandisk's Extreme III version. (SanDisk 2 GB SDSDX3-2048-901 Extreme III SD Memory Card, $29.49 with free shipping at Amazon.)
Holy cow, is that card quick! Where formerly I had to allow time between shots for the image to be written to the card, it's almost instantaneous now. It should be especially nice after shooting video. There were times when I'd miss some good opportunities while waiting for video to save; that won't be as likely now.
If you can spare the extra money, you might find it worth it.
