24" iMac running extremely slow

I was attempting to reinstall OS 10.4 from the original recovery disks that came with the computer, the installer ran for 2 days before quitting, at the time it quit it was installing garageband loops on disk 2.

This computer originally was running with 2GB of ram, I added 2GB of ram for a total of 4GB, it made no difference.

This was my work machine, I swapped it out with another 24" we had and transfered that 4 GB of ram to the my new work machine.

The problem machine is now running with 1GB of ram, there are no apps on the machine other than what was installed prior to the installation quitting due to errors.
