I think the difference is the response a dog gives to humans. Personality. Rabbits are cute but they are not a comopanion, an extention of ourselves, like dogs and cats...Ok PeterB....and Hampsters!
I'll go out on a limb here and guess that mink and chinchilla find being skinned alive just as painful as dogs do. I'll also guess that they have just as strong a desire to live.
