My office iMac (intel core duo) has had a hard drive failure - I never noticed, since I have a full clone backup (superduper) that happens automatically every night.
Hard drive does not show up at all - I will bring in my Snow Leopard disk from home tomorrow and see what I can see what booting from it and into disk utility shows.
I have disk warrior, and can try that as well (disk also at home).
Assuming all this fails, how hard is it to crack one of these open and install a new drive? I am moderately handy with this sort of thing.
