Do You Do The Double Honk When Driving Away After Visiting Friends?

I don't understand this ritual and don't remember ever doing it myself. It just happened again on my sleepy little dead end street. The neighbor's company just left, and I'm sure they said their goodbyes just before getting into the car. So what is the purpose of the double honk? Is there really any good reason for it? :dunno:
