I have been using a 8x6 Intuos2 for years and really like that size. I have also occasionally used the much larger 12xsomething size and find it ridiculously too big for efficient work. If I wanted to draw that big I would do it for real on a sheet of paper. The point of doing it on the computer is to be more efficient.
Now I don't know if 6x4 is too small, but I would imagine with sufficient dexterity it would be much the same.
