Since posting I have registered in the Palm forums, posted a question, and I even got a reply from Palm tech support! Amazing, huh?
This is actually an old Treo 90, which is not a phone. It came with Palm 4.0 software, but I'm using Palm 4.2 on my computer. I think the Palm software I have installed is simply too new, so it's incompatible with the device. I have another question posted to Palm now about what to do about that. If that's the problem, I don't mind downgrading the version, but a free PDA isn't worth the price if I lose all of my contact information and my calendar entries!
Thank you for responding, though. I think this would work just fine with older Palm software, providing switching doesn't break something else that I don't want broken. What's that saying about you get what you pay for?!
