Old-timers from the "old forum"
Huh? The forum was actually more cohesive after 9/11

I don't agree, unless you mean quite some time after September 11. But the attacks brought out the very worst in some people, and I don't remember the forum as a whole becoming more cohesive.

And then there was the segmenting of the forum into categories...

Also, are you saying Charlie was someone who surprised/disappointed you with what was underneath the facade?

Ah, my comment was poorly phrased. Charlie™ was definitely not one of the addle-pated, abberated denizens. He is one of a few that I enjoyed reading that never crossed over, as near as I could tell. And I believe he was one of the few without a facade. Teela Brown, PunchingPhilSchiller'sNuts... I remember him making the announcement of his name change, but I forgot his former nom de plume.

Anybody remember the Outpost TV commercials? Especially the Stunt Hamsters? And the letter from the Outpost Pres/CEO/Whatever? Tech related commercials rivaled only by the early Yahoo! commercials.

I got my first trackball (for my LC), a Kensington TurboMouse 4.0, from Cyberian. They and MacConnection had next day delivery for anything you bought. Tres cool.

Good times at the old place before they changed the format. I was pRON aHOLIC there and for a time here. I think this format with the mix of topics and how they play off each other is a better mix.

I just went through my Sent Items folder and found e-mails to old forum members from mid-1998, so I was there for at least that long.

I stopped visiting the forum for no reason at all a number of years ago, and missed all of the fireworks. I have no idea what the schism is or how it played out. Somehow, I found out that everyone moved over here, so this is now my Mac forum of choice, although I'm not a very active member.
