It's well known that iodine protects you from radiation. As do tinfoil hats. 8-)
The reason you want to take iodine tablets is to make sure your body is "full" of "normal" iodine. This prevents/limits the bodies uptake of the radioactive iodine isotopes. This is only necessary in the event of a large fuel failure that is released to the environment. It is not something that will protect you from radiation in general, like a lead suit. The article does not say anything about Cs-137 being air-borne or not. I hate that. The article does a fine job of explaining the dangers of these two elements, but fails to discuss how Cs-137 moves or does not move. Is the danger confined to the source and nearby areas or is it also carried by the wind? How far?
